Pre-school programs at the Good Zoo are a great way for parents or grandparents to explore nature and wildlife with their children.

The 2008 fall series continues with the exploration of the animal alphabet. Programs, which are for 2 - 4 year olds, are designed using the Content Standards and Learning Criteria for West Virginia Pre-Kindergarten. Each program is one-hour in length and includes crafts, songs and even live animals.

Dates and Times: Preschool programs are held on select Wednesdays and Saturdays, September through December. Programs begin at 10:30 and are one hour in length. See program list below for dates.

Program Fees: Program fees include one child (ages 2 - 4) and up to 2 adults. Zoo members: $ 9.50 per program; non-members: $14 per program. Additional siblings may be added for $3 each.

Discount for multiple programs! Sign your child up for 4 or more programs and take $2 off each program!

K is for Kangaroo (Week 4)

Visit the zoo’s kangaroos! Try your skill at kangaroo hopscotch & more.

L is for Llama (Week 5)
Wed., Oct 29 or Sat., Nov 1
“Is your mama a llama”? Hear this fun story; groom a llama and much more in this fun-filled program!

M is for Meerkats (Week 6)
Wed., Nov 5 or Sat., Nov 8
Meerkats are excellent diggers! See them dig and use an “enrichment item” made especially for them by the class. Round out the class by playing the meerkat version of “Simon says.”

N is for Nocturnal (Week 7)
Wed., Nov 12 or Sat., Nov 15
Many animals come out at night! Owls and bats are just two of them. In this fun program, we will read the story “The Zoo at Night”, see some nocturnal animals and play some “nighttime” games. Make a glow in the dark picture, too.

O is for Otter (Week 8)
Wed., Nov 19 or Sat., Nov 22
You “otter” come to this class for some fun adventures! Make “fish-sickles” for the river otters and more!

P is for Pig (Week 9)
Wed., Dec 3 or Sat., Dec 6
When you think of pigs, you probably think of noses and mud puddles, but did you know they are smart, too? Learn all about pigs through songs, games stories and crafts. Make a “mud puddle” snack and create your very own pig nose to wear.

Q is for Queen (Week 10)
Wed., Dec 17 or Sat., Dec 20
Some animals, like bees and naked mole rats, live in a colony with a queen. Learn how naked mole rats cooperate. Play an “assembly line” game and make your own bumble bee headbands.
