Saturday, May 10, 2008
The Benedum Planetarium will be celebrating its 19th Annual Astronomy Day 2008 from 10:30 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 10. “Evening Skies of Spring”, a 20-minute planetarium program pointing out the major stars and constellations visible in the night skies during spring will be presented at 1 pm. The new half-hour family planetarium program, “The Planets”, will be presented at 2 pm. "Cosmic Stones", a talk on meteorites will be presented at 3 pm. Family astronomy activities will be offered from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
A model of the International Space Station will be on display as well as a very impressive collection of meteorites on loan from a local Wheeling resident. Door prizes will be given away toward the end of the day’s activities. The event is free with zoo admission.
Weather permitting, planetarium staff and members of the Oglebay Astronomy Club will be at the Schrader Environmental Center’s Speidel Observatory during the evening for public viewing of the spring night skies. Several telescopes will be set up to view Mars, Saturn, the moon and a few deep sky objects. |
