A Year-Round Get-A-Way!
More than a hundred years ago, a tradition of generous hospitality was started at the summer estate of Earl Oglebay. Today, Oglebay Resort offers 1,700 acres of year round recreational opportunities and excellent overnight accommodations but has retained its picturesque natural beauty. For generations, families, groups and individuals have indulged in the tradition and spirit that make Oglebay unique.
Situated on a hilltop in the heart of Oglebay is the 258-room Wilson Lodge including our up and coming 43 newly renovated preferred rooms. Facilities at the lodge include the West Spa, casual and fine dining, business center, wireless Internet, an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and game room. New in 2015, Sarita’s in Wilson Lodge lobby offers coffee, beverages, pastries and snacks. Groups up to four hundred are easily accommodated in Wilson Lodge's 22,000 square feet of modern conference facilities.
For groups and larger families, Oglebay has 54 deluxe cottages, all with a large living room and 2, 4, 6 or 8 bedrooms.
Dining options range from cookouts to banquets, to gourmet meals . . . all served in one of the beautiful dining rooms or one of the exceptional banquet rooms. Special themed events can also be catered at unique locations throughout the resort.
Oglebay is truly a golfer's paradise with four golf courses including two championship courses at the Speidel Golf Club! The newest championship course is a modern links layout designed by Arnold Palmer and is the perfect complement to our classic Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed championship course.
Oglebay also features the 18-hole regulation Crispin Course and a 9-hole Par III Course. A practice range at the Speidel Golf Club features grass tees, matted tees, and a chipping green surrounded by two sand bunkers. Before and after your game, stop in the Hamm Clubhouse featuring a grill room, modern locker facilities, on-staff pro and a fully-stocked pro shop.
Visitors of all ages will be delighted by the Good Zoo, West Virginia’s only accredited zoo, with thirty acres of grounds, a mile and a half train ride, discovery lab, 0-gauge train exhibit, and Benedum Theater. The Mansion Museum (Mr. Oglebay's summer home), Glass Museum, and Environmental Education Center are also highlights of Oglebay.
Specialty shops include Farmhouse Sweets & Treats, Carriage House Glass, Palm Room and the Wheeling Civic Garden Center on The Hilltop plus Nature Express, the Speidel Pro Shop, Resort Shop, and the West Spa Boutique.
Additional recreational opportunities at Oglebay include our brand new Aerial Adventure Course, and Hiking and Mountain Biking Trails as well as swimming at the large outdoor pool, 10 HAR-Tru tennis courts, horse stables offering trail rides and lessons, plus pedal boating, miniature golf, fishing, and miles of paved walking/jogging trails. During the winter months, we have a downhill skiing & snowboarding area featuring triple chairlift, snowmaking, rental equipment and instruction.
The natural beauty of Oglebay can be enjoyed with a stroll along brick walking paths in the magnificent gardens. These gardens are a sixteen-acre recreation of the gardens that existed in the early 1900s when Oglebay was still a private estate. Over 50,000 tulips, daffodils and hyacinths herald spring's arrival and the summer months feature colorful annuals blooming from the beds and dangling from over 200 hanging baskets.
In November and December, Oglebay features one of America's largest holiday light shows, the Winter Festival of Lights. This six-mile driving show dazzles visitors with over a million lights on a six-mile drive displayed over 300 acres.
Oglebay is committed to being a good steward of our remarkable landscape with Green Initiatives that preserve and sustain our natural beauty. We also promote safe and healthy lifestyles at all areas. In accordance with the Wheeling-Ohio County Clean Air Regulation of the Wheeling-Ohio County Board of Health, all indoor and outdoor public spaces at Oglebay are smoke free.
